In this tutorial we explore how to create an auto-scaling text box effect in After Effects. This effect will essentially create a text box that moves and changes size and shape to fit the contents of the text within. It’s an impressive looking effect that surprisingly doesn’t take that much hard work to achieve. The few pieces of hard work we’ve actually done for you, providing information for scripts and even the project files below. We hope you like this tutorial and find it helpful for you future projects!

You can find the code that we’ve used in the video to be able to copy and paste here:
Section 1
w=s.sourceRectAtTime().width;
h=s.sourceRectAtTime().height;
[w,h]
So your full expression should look like this:
s=thisComp.layer(“My Text Layer”);
w=s.sourceRectAtTime().width;
h=s.sourceRectAtTime().height;
[w,h]
Section 2
s=thisComp.layer(“My Text Layer”);
w=s.sourceRectAtTime().width/2;
h=s.sourceRectAtTime().height/2;
l=s.sourceRectAtTime().left;
t=s.sourceRectAtTime().top;
[w+l,h+t]
